Montserrat is a captivating neighborhood in Buenos Aires that has inspired a designer to create a unique typeface. This typeface was developed with the goal of rescuing the beauty of the urban typography that existed in the first half of the twentieth century. The designer’s aim is to share this typeface with others by releasing it under a free and open-source license, the SIL Open Font License. By doing so, the designer hopes to make this typeface accessible to everyone who shares their passion for the aesthetic qualities of old posters and signs. Although the Montserrat neighborhood will never be the same as it was in the past, the designer’s typeface allows for a glimpse into the past, capturing the essence of a bygone era.
